So, usually we'd post a big expansive list from either PCGamer or RPS here detailing the myriad of games that re supposed to come out during the year, from the lowest indie to biggest AAA blockbuster.

UNfortunately, both of those lists are pretty crap this year (imho. compared to prior years)

So I propose we open the floor to the forumites' thoughts on what cool games are coming in 2019.

Personally I don't htink that either Cyberpunk or BG&E2 are coming out this year. So that's 2 potentially HUGE games off my hype list.

Out of the other PC-bound games, I'm actually looking forward to checking out most of them, with the notable exceptions of:
-Anthem
-Division 2
-Wolvenstein spin-off (due to co-op focus)
-Gears 5 (due to not being involved in the story, since the first trilogy's not on PC)
-Crackdown 3 (because it seems to be more of a "make your own fun" game, and I'm not really into those)
-Skull and Bones (if it releases this year)
-whatever racing/fighting/sports games qualify as "AAA"

Aside from that, Capcom is likely to have a chunk of my money and attention, since they're revisiting Resident Evil AND the 2 franchises that starterd as Resi spin-offs (DMC and Onimusha), and both seem like smth I'd like to check out. Id likewise has my full attention after me just having finshed RAGE- I'm planning to play earlier Dooms (3 + 2016), and quite possibly dig into this year's sequels (provided Beth doesn't follow through with its Beth launcher exclusivity, which is dumb; it's not in a position to compete with Steam; )
-Both Metro and Dying Light 2 interest me; Sekiro looks cool, too. Control I'll probably check out once I get past some of Remedy's earlier games.
-special mention to Platinum's "Babylon's Fall"- I want to hear more about this game, even if it doesn't make a 2019 release. Because it is a Platinum Game, and that's reason enough.

Moving away from the "AAA" games, there's Biomutant, Psychonauts 2, The Sinking City, as well as some more experimental projects from mid tier-publishers
-A plague Tale: Innocence feels more puzzl-y, but it's a cool and novel idea (trying to make your way through hordes of ravenous rats who'll devour you as soon as you're out of the light)
-Greedfall, which is a Spiders RPG. I mean, "Spiders" are synonymous with euro-jank, but I love that they're wiling to try new and novel settings, even if their quality is like Bioware-lite. And this time they're doing a New World with musket-wielding colonizers vs shamanistic natives, so I'd like to see what they make of it
-Fade to Silence, a souls-like set in a deadly winter with survival elements due to having to keep warm, but also rescuing other people to make them work in your survivors' camps, and a story-involved "insanity" mechanic... it's a THQ-published game that's supposed to come out of Early Access this year, and it'll be available on GOG, so i'm looking forward to what it turns out to be.
-Devil's Hunt- a hack'n'slash where a gruff burly man mutates his arms to be all hellish and spiky and punches demons a lot. It's supposedly based on another Polish author's books, and the combat looks all right, so I wanna check it out.
-Elex 2 might also be out, but I'm hopelessly behind when it comes to Pirahna Bytes' work, so I'm lukewarm on this.
-Pathologic 2 is supposed to start its episodic releases this year and... if it finishes, I'll check out the whole thing. Same with DontNods "Dark Mirror, which looks pretty intriguing, and seems to be kinda going back to the "memory remixes" thing they tried in Remember me
-Outward is a fantasy survival-RPG with a focus on ritualistic magic. Which feels like a novel concept that might be worth looking into
-Outer Wilds is a scifi-exploration type game that's like No Man's Sky, but hand-crafted and confined to a single solar system. Also currently I think it's got timed exclusivity window with the Epic Store)
(both of these are likely to get confused with Obsidian's "Outer Worlds" a lot, probably)

And then there's a whole ton of "indie" projects
-Phoenix Point, the new X-com-like, form the original creator of X-Com- only instead of space aliens its eldritch monstrosities rising from the seas
-Disco Elysium, a cop RPG with emphasis on psychology, where your "skills" are various cognitive abilities and disorders. Should be very text-heavy and reminiscent of "Planescape Torment"
-Praey to the Gods, a "Shadow of the Colossus"-like, set in the winter, that's coming to PC. 'nuff said
-Decay of Logos- what appears to be another souls-like in its fighting mechanics with the USP of having a rideable elk companion, who's to be used in solving puzzles and such. This one just comes off as another passion project from the dev interviews and also seems to have some interesting tweaks to the formula, so I'd like to check it out
-Encased- an RPG with turn-based exploration that's also a dungeon crawler but set in alt-70s when humanity discovers a ginat alien city complex in a desert and the whole world's attention is on trying to explore and figure it out. The trailers look interesting.
-Arani- this seems to be a hack'n'slash in the DMC mold, based on the mythology of the Amazonian tribes in Brazil. The reveal trailer looked interesting, and I'm always up for killing monsters in a unique setting.
-Operencia- The Stolen Sun. Now, party-based, grid-combat dungeon-crawlers aren't usually my thing, but this one is based on Central European (and to be more precise, it' appears, Hungarian) mythology, so it feels worth looking into.
-Atomic Heart- a somewhat Bioshock-y looking shooter with a Soviet setting where robot research went wrong, and there's loads of homicidal machines to shoot.
-Close to the Sun- a somewhat Bioshock-y horror game (with no combat) set aboard a 19th century floating city led by Nikola Tesla where things go horribly wrong
-Element: Space is another Early Access RPG that has you try to hunt down a terrorist network in a interstellar state that's crumbling. you're supposed to choose between allying with faction with different ideologies (to get different tech), and combat seems like a turn-based X-com-ish affair. One to keep an eye on when it comes out of early Access
-Beautiful desolation- an old-school post-apoc RPG with an African inspired setting.
-Orange Cast is a Russian mass-effect-style TPS/RPG that also looks interesting
-Hellpoint is yet Another souls-like RPG, and one that I'm kinda following, purely cuz its aesthetic reminds me somewhat of E.Y.E.: Divine Cybermancy. Aside from being sci-fi themed on a space station that's overcome by hellspawn from another dimension (or quantum reality, or somesuch), its USP seems to be that due to these quantum fluctuations, conditions aboard the station will change from time to time, so you might encounter new enemies/traps/challenges in previously explored areas. This one isn't particularly high on my list, but it bears watching, maybe?
-Lost Soul Aside- This is another hack'n'slasher with strong FF visual influences. But it looks pretty cool, and it was made by ONE GUY. Which is ridiculously impressive, no matter how you look at it.
-Rain of Reflections is an episodic (boo!) cyberpunk-y adventure game with turn-based combat that looks... pretty interesting?
Scorn, the "body-horror biopunk" FPS is supposed to come out this year (I think? it may have also gone episodic)

so yeah, there's loads of games I'm looking forward to. How about everyone else?

Ment, you have an eye for intriguing indi titles I'll give you that. A number of those sounds really interesting.

Don't think I saw 'Sekiro: Shadows die twice' on the list. It is from the Dark Souls guys I believe. Looks pretty cool.

So you aren't interested in any big triple A titles, because you're a gaming hipster?

Ok then...

I didn't say that. I'm not interested in any multi-player focused AAA titles, because for me gaming is an asocial hobby.

I want to play the new Doom and Rage, Sekiro, DMC, Metro, Dying Light, Control, Left Alive Resi2 and Onimusha Warlords at some point. (Also Nioh 2 if it ends up coming to PC) All of these are single-player focused AAA titles. I'm not interested in any online, games as a service games.

What's with the hostility, Obdi?

@ Gorefest: I'm very curious about Sekiro, despite having very limited experience with Soulsbourne type games.

I'm limited to a PS4 currently so I mainly have my eye on the mainstream games now a days.

Anthem, Division 2, Metro Exodus, Devil May Cry 5 and Days Gone all sound like interesting early year/spring releases.

Very curious to see if Anthem turns out to be great. I like the action gameplay but where's the story footage?

Trials rising I am hopeful for. I really liked the game on PS3, I think it was called Gold or something, but didn't like the latest one with the annoying stunt/trick requirements.

Rage 2 I am hopeful for but I don't expect more than just a dumb shooter.

Fall seems very vague.

There's no release dated for Dying Light 2, Ghost of Tsushima, Last of Us 2 or Respawn's Jedi Order but I assume they're slated for this fall.

I'm also slightly curious about Judge Eyes which I'd say new franchise from the Yakuza devs. I still haven't played any Yakuza games but it's my goal to play Yakuza Zero in 2019.

Not sure about the new Doom and Wolfenstein games. I'm slightly cold on Bethesda but I do love me some shooters.

I'm really looking forward to Fire Emblem: Three Houses on the Switch, and maybe Metroid Prime 4, who knows?

The indie game I'm most looking forward to is Pathway, which actually looks like an 'Indy' game: https://bigbossbattl...RQJAIAjRj1S0G1c

About the only games I'm paying attention to right now are Brave Neptunia (Nep nep neeeeep) and Crackdown 3. Beyond that nothing has caught my eye at all.

Apt, not sure why you say you’re limited mainstream games, the PS4 has a tonne of fantastic indie titles.

Ment covered pretty much everything I’m interested in, but I’ll also add:

Dreams - Media Molecule’s attempt at creating a whole pro game engine designed to be usable for those with no coding expertise at all.

Psychonauts 2

The Dark Pictures: Man of Medan - I loved Until Dawn, and this looks like more of the same, in an anthology-style series.

Journey to the Savage Planet - Light-hearted first-person adventure game in which you explore an unknown planet.

Void Bastards - The only game whose trailer at the Game Awards really piqued my interest. An indie strategy shooter in which you board and raid space ships, from the director of System Shock 2 and the original Bioshock.

Indie games are fine. There's just not that many on my radar I'd pick over a AAA experience.

Dreams is very dubious. I've heard a lot of great things but I'm not sure the game will get the audience needed to justify the studios future existence.

I'm sure I'll pick this up. And since I now have a switch, I'll probably be looking at getting something for that, like Zelda, maybe the new Fire Emblem.
So that's the story. And what was the real lesson? Don't leave things in the fridge.

Atlus, the devs of the Persona series have a has a "special announcement" for March concerning Persona 5. Fingers crossed their owner Sega is bringing the game to PC....

Also, speaking of PS4 exclusives: Concrete Genie is supposed to be out this year, as is Vane and Project Awakening (though the last 2 aren't published by Sony, so those might be timed exclusives... not sure how Cygames works, according to PC Gamer they want to bring more of their games to PC.... so it remains to be seen. Hopefully this'll be a situation similar to Nioh where the game comes to PC following a period of PlayStation exclusivity)

Unless ArcSys are doing Persona 5 Arena and moving away from mashy fighters and back to ones that require a modicum of understanding to play.

I'm wondering if they're bringing Persona 5 to the Switch, given Joker turning up in Smash Bros. Probably not, but I'd love it if they did as I'd stand a better chance of finishing it if I had the option of playing it handheld as well. Played around 50 hours of it on PS4 but got tempted away by other stuff and haven't been back to it. Really want to, though, but I doubt if I can remember where I was or what personas I was trying to fuse or whatever, so I'd probably have to re-start *prays for Switch version*

When I was a kid with a Dreamcast, I used to limit myself to buying one game per month. I then used to play the hell out of that game, before moving on to another the following month. That was so much more eminently sensible than present-day Khell's tendency to buy a load of games and then play maybe 10% of them. Or, as is the case at the moment, trying to play five different games at the same time. If I were to go back to my old ways (to be fair, that was before indie gaming and downloadable games were a thing), then my buying and playing habits would look something like this for 2019:

Jan: Resident Evil 2
Feb: Metro Exodus
Mar: Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice
Apr: Mortal Kombat 11
May: Team Sonic Racing
Jun: ?
Jul: ?
Aug: Shenmue 3
Sep: ?
Oct: ?
Nov: ?
Dec: ?

Priority buys for me in the near future are probably Metro and Sinking City- both being games by Uki devs, so I want to give them more money, provided the games don't release totally broken.

With Sekiro I'll probably wait for a patch to make sure M+K controls work well, since I doubt ActiBlizz would dedicate its initial attention to that.

Resi2 and DMC5 are contingent on how I feel about the series once I play the prior games.

It's very unlikely we see new consoles this year. There's no real developer chatter or codename leaks yet. Though I believe there are rumors about development kits.

It is interesting to look at first party releases though. Sony has pulled out if E3 this year and haven't been announcing anything we weren't aware of 2-3 years ago. Microsoft doesn't have much on their plate neither besides Crackdown and Gears 5.

It's almost like they're holding their breath and in 2020 we're gonna see a bunch of games become launch titles.

Microsoft is also releasing Ori 2 and (supposedly) Battletoads

Sony's got Concrete Genie, Dreams, Days Gone as confirmed 2019 releases. Also, Cygames' Project awakening and Koei Tecmo's Nioh 2 are supposed to be 2019 Sony exclusives (though for the latter I'm hoping they'll be timed exclusives like the original Nioh was before coming to PC).
