This is after Caplo attacked Draconus and Draconus promises them a realm and a throne.
The statement below in bold is not clear to me. Appreciate any clarification of it.

Quote

Draconus shook his Dead. 'D'ivers now, as well. The Shake consort with forces they do not understand. Not just the cursed legacy of the desperate Eresal eludes that understanding, but so too the one you now challenge

Finally rereading FoL and it has been fun. I am a bit confident now that Ruthan is Arathan because Gothos explicitly mentions that Arathan should treat Draconus as a friend which is what Ruthan calls Draconus at one point.

Just a shot in the dark since I forgot a lot, but maybe he's saying "You pitiful fools are messing with things you don't and can't understand: first of all, the cursed legacy of Erasal [aka D'ivers magic]; second of all, ME."
They came with white hands and left with red hands.

This statement stands alone. So I think what you say makes sense.

Never connected Eresal to D'ivers before, so this may be significant.

Yah, it kinda goes back to the initial beliefs about evolution (not to mention some extinctions) of the hominids in the series: Eresal --> Imass --> Humans, and how they've muddied over the course of the books. Biology, Creationism, and Magic are all kinda swirling around each other and the lines aren't clean and they get less clear the further back you go.
They came with white hands and left with red hands.
