New anthology STRAIGHT OUTTA TOMBSTONE edited by David Boop includes a Dresden Files short:

Quote

Jim Butcher reveals the origin of one of the Dresden Files' most popular characters in "Fistful of Warlock."

"Here is light. You will say that it is not a living entity, but you miss the point that it is more, not less. Without occupying space, it fills the universe. It nourishes everything, yet itself feeds upon destruction. We claim to control it, but does it not perhaps cultivate us as a source of food? May it not be that all wood grows so that it can be set ablaze, and that men and women are born to kindle fires?"
―Gene Wolfe, The Citadel of the Autarch

I kinda love it when D'rek unleashes her nerd wrath, as I knew she would here. Sorry innocent bystanders, but someone's gotta be the kindling.

This thread made me look up progress on Peace Talks. Apparently he began writing seriously on the book again in May... 2017.

It's been 3 years! 3 YEARS! I am dying here damn it.

If this is the release windows we can expect between the last books, I think I'm going to consider waiting until 2030 to finish the series.

I tweeted him two weeks ago asking about Peace Talks. No reply.

I'm starting to think Butcher needs to make like Sanderson and get cracking on another series to help clear his head.

When he was knocking out the Fury series he maintained Dresden well, but it's 2 years now since Aeronaut's windlass and minimal progress on Peace talks or cinder spires 2....

maybe creating a 3rd series will help?

(above suggestion is only semi-serious)
meh. Link was dead :(

Apparently, judging by the stuff I read the other day, he's been dealing with a bunch of personal crap the last years. Deaths in the family, personal illness, divorce, moving houses, etc. I think one of the problems he's been having is the constant change in routines. Many authors have problems maintaining their writing if they can't write to a schedule in a familiar environment.

fair enough, had no idea personal stuff had arisen.

And yes, a lot of authors would benefit from treating it like a job and setting aside time every day to actually write, but there you are.

How could you live together with a man that writes 15 books in a immensely popular series only to witness this monster stop just as the series is approaching it's climax? I mean, would you share your bed with that kind of a villain?
