Hi all,

I have started DoD and now currently on Chapter 4. Since I am only at the beginning, I have avoided other topics. This may seem early but since Bill Capossere was lacking in chapter 3 summary and commentary (damn!) on Tor rereads, I am having trouble. My questions are all about Fiddler's reading

1) What is a reading anyway? What does it signify and what mechanisms does it trigger?
2) Fiddler did many readings before but he was never this frightened. Why was he so reluctant?
3) Why does the total count present in the room effect the reading?
4) This reading was nothing like previous ones. The cards were flying and hitting people? Why did it happen? Except for Brys of course.
5) When Fiddler picks a card for someone, say "Magus of Dark" for QB, what does he do at that precise moment? Does that mean QB was Magus of Dark before and it is just revealed or does it mean that there this candidate QB and at that introduction, a God claims him?

The cards and what those mean (and no cards for Tavore of course) is RAFO for sure so I am not interested in the meanings right now but these questions bug me a lot

Just crossed my mind:

6) TCG created his own Deck of Dragons IIRC. Why did he need a new design? Was it ever entered the game? Does the deck Fiddler is using belong to TCG?
7) What power the Deck of Dragons hold? And why :p

Regards

1. A reading of the Deck of Dragons is a harnessing of magical energy through the aspected nature of the deck intended to gain some foresight about the future.
2. Letheras is a centre of great power. A reading is a way to address and harness power. Any reading in such a nexus of power where Elder Gods roam would have unforeseen consequences. This also answers why the reading is so different
3. Don't know
5. Cards indicate context-specific roles. A God may not literally choose someone, but that person will be playing a role like that indicated by a card

No card for Tavore - she is a mystery to the Deck

6. The Crippled God didn't create his own set of the Deck of Dragons. He created his own house in it, the House of Chains

7. Mostly speculations: The Deck of Dragons is a representation of powers. Elemental powers (Life, Death, Shadow, Light, Dark) and others (War, Chain, Unaligned). Houses, Warrens, Gods, Ascendants. It is linked to them and they are linked to it somehow. So they are bound by the rules of the game (but I don't know if even one of them understands the rules completely).
In my opinion those links give the cards their power somehow. Why? Maybe it was intended by the creator, but we don't know who created the first cards. Probably someone who thought that a new system of magic needed a new tool for divination instead of the Tiles. Maybe K'rul was involved.

The Deck is a mystery to everyone. Posted Image

6. He created his own cards of the Deck of Dragons. Paran inducted them in, back in MoI-HoC

7. The Deck is a way to channelise and control magic through a system of heirarchies

I think, when Paran blessed (accepted) TCG into the Pantheon, TCG's version of Deck of Dragons became valid. Am I right?

He did not create an entirely new version of the entire Deck, simply a set of cards depicting the House of Chains

OK, got it know. Though, if Paran hadn't blessed him, all his efforts would have been futile

The Crippled God did no create a Deck of Dragons. I'm not really sure we understand who actually made the Deck or what the Deck actually does or what it really is, but the Crippled God certainly did not have the power or influence to create a whole new Deck of Dragons.

The Crippled God created a House. Houses are not the same as the deck or a card. A house is a kind of control point in a warren or a source of power and influence. The Crippled God created a House of Chains that represented his aspect and his pawns. And in turn, because it is what the Deck of Dragons does, roles and cards came into play. But that House and those players were outside the Deck of Dragons. In a way they were at war with the Deck of Dragons. Paran solved that issue by sanctioning the House of Chains.
