Hey all, I figured since this one is out and at least some of us will be reading it now or soon, why not start a thread where we can discuss?

Also, please use spoiler tags (and if possible reference which chapter/page those spoilers are up to) for consideration of others who may not be as far as you yet.

Spoilers for the first 60 pages

Great stuff so far, and enjoying it more than ALLOY.

I decided to wait until I get close to finishing Cinder before buying it otherwise I ll put Cinder down and who knows if I ll pick it back up soon. I'm struggling with it at ch 23.

I hope you know bk 3 is coming in Jan 16 also. That was a nice surprise to know. What's the Pg count? Any new maps?

The story ends at page 376. The maps are the same as in the last book. As with the last book, there are a few newspaper prints throughout the book.

I don't have my ALLOY OF LAW handy to check, but did the maps in it have the hand-written notations that this one does? I'm still trying to figure out who they are by.

Also, spoilers up to page 100, I have questions of those who recall ALLOY better than I...

Spoiler

I'm FULLY enjoying this book. Moreso than Cinder Spires #1, if we are talking about fall books released by authors I love. Even at only 100 pages in, this one wins. It's just a fantastic expanding of the 300-years-later Mistborn world. We get to treat the original trilogy as this massive, intricate table setting...allowing the Wax & Wayne books to just sail along. Also, you can tell that this is the start of the new trilogy (with ALLOY being the prologue of sorts), and the fact that BANDS Of MOURNING is out so soon after this one (apparently Sanderson wrote BoM before SoS so that he could wrap his head around SoS) is super exciting. No word on when Book 4 (THE LOST METAL) will come out, but if the other two books are anywhere as awesome as these are, we're all in for a treat.

I don't have it to check either, but I want to say that they weren't in Alloy.

I'm in a reading slump at the moment so this book isn't really pulling me in yet. I'm waiting for a bigger story to develop, and I trust Brandon to do that.

Spoilers up to page 132ish

Spoiler

Random non-spoiler Cosmere question: Were Preservation and Ruin ALWAYS two shards? Like now that they are united as the single shard of Harmony, does that eff up the whole 17 Shards of Adonalsium thing or was it one shard from the whole that split before or ON Scadrial? Also, is this the first time that two Shards have been united? Devotion and Dominon on Sel are still separate right? At least as of the end of ELANTRIS & THE EMPEROR'S SOUL...?

Yes, I'm pretty sure Ruin and Preservation were always two shards, and I think they still technically are two separate shards held by one person. Brandon said at one point that Harmony was the most powerful shardbearer in the Cosmere due to holding two shards.

Sorry, I've had a very shit weekend (life stuff), and have been largely unable to read. Will do so this week, and then we can discuss.
