Just a thought...
If the Four Founding Races was actually a treaty/adjudication by the FA way back when that there should be no interspecies wars of genocide between them, then the Imass clearly violated that edict. Does this violation explain the FA's return and desire to kill/enslave everyone at the end of the Book of the Fallen? The T'lan Imass clearly did not abide by the peace, and the Forkrul Assail seem like they would take such an affront with no small action.
Just curious. I never did entirely understand why the FA went all world-domination during TCG, other than their vague talk of ideals and justice.

I tend to think it was the Jaghut Tyrants that started it, but that's not really the important part.

I think the TCG FA were absolutely a splinter, extremist group - the Mujahadeen of the FA race - but I don't think the breaking of a treaty was behind their motives. I believe they were fanatically held to their belief that complete destruction of everything was necessary to return to their idyllic culture. I don't think they were seeking domination as much as expurgation.
Theorizing that one could poop within his own lifetime, Doctor Poopet led an elite group of scientists into the desert to develop a top secret project, known as QUANTUM POOP. Pressured to prove his theories or lose funding, Doctor Poopet, prematurely stepped into the Poop Accelerator and vanished. He awoke to find himself in the past, suffering from partial amnesia and facing a mirror image that was not his own. Fortunately, contact with his own bowels was made through brainwave transmissions, with Al the Poop Observer, who appeared in the form of a hologram that only Doctor Poopet could see and hear. Trapped in the past, Doctor Poopet finds himself pooping from life to life, pooping things right, that once went wrong and hoping each time, that his next poop will be the poop home.

I wonder how the FA in Kolanse got access to the CG heart. The access to power could have corrupted that particular group of Assail.
That would jive with what Stonny said.

Interestingly "power" seems to give people the ability to act on their desires.
And in this case, it gave that group of Assail the ability to act towards the solution of elimination for the problem that vexed them.

If we go with the assumption that the FA we see in Assail are 'pure', then it seemed to moi that the FA in TCG took over a human empire and were in turn 'corrupted' by the humans they ruled, hence their radical/insane conclusion that scorching the world was the only just path.

Another possibility is that it was the Heart itself that corrupted them. They likely found it after the Fall and kept it around, and over time it warped them further, similar to how The Lady in SW turned a large chunk of continent into one big sacrificial power source.

Yap, since reading Assail I've taken the belief that the FA in TCG were a splinter group. Serenity and Calm were two of the group who had dealings with outside peoples for a while so that might have been another source of their "corruption" as well. They claimed their names whereas the guys in Assail seemed less willing to assign themselves ones.

I can't imagine that Calm's imprisonment for millennia under that stone did much for her mental state, either, which likely played in to her involvement in the splinter group of the splinter group.

EDIT: Good point about them claiming their names.

All good points. The FA in TCG definitely seemed like a deviation from the norm of their people. The pair that appeared at the end of Assail were much more true to their alleged form.
Interesting about the names, too. Can we assume that was not a trait of the main FA culture? That by adopting names the others somehow rebelled against the mainstream?

I think there main objective was kill all humans and hopefully everything will go back to how it was way back when and if that don't work kill all and leave it to the wild

I guess my only concern with that is that the Forkrul Assail are apparently living in their own society in Assail itself, undisturbed by the outside world. Some of the FA in TCG were released from captivity earlier in the series (Calm, Serenity) but the others appear to have been out and about for quite some time. If they wanted FA society back so bad, they could have just gone back home. Instead they enslave a couple armies and piss off all the gods, to what end?

I think the point is that the two groups developed different concepts of 'Justice'.

The TCG group were effectively activists seeking to bring Justice to the world by ending it. I'd bet these were also the ones who warred with the Liosan.

The cave dwelling group on Assail dispense their flavor of justice when asked, or disturbed, but are otherwise content to stay aloof and away from everything.

We see that individuals like Calm and Serenity journeyed out into the world... fair bet they were FA who decided that Justice was best served by serving it on people with their fists, so they left the caves on Assail and did so. or they were just bored with sitting in a cave.

We know from elsebook that at some point there were FA cities that were eventually wiped out by Eleint... no idea whether the wandering activists or the cave dwellers were originally the city FA, but it does support the notion that not all FA choose to live the same way.

....all of which is to say ASSAIL may tell us what the FA in TCG left behind to pursue their crusade.
