A question about comic book movie adaptations. Can you name your top 5? A segment on the radio got me thinking about this

Was listening to a guy reviewing Dr.Strange on the radio today, and as an aside to the review itself, it would appear that he had written a piece about comic book movie adaptations, and had given his top 5 adaptations.
His list went
5. BATMAN FOREVER (The Val Kilmer one!)
4. SUPERMAN (The original one)
3. GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY
2. CAPTAIN AMERICA : CIVIL WAR
1. THE DARK KNIGHT

As he was naming out his list, I was cursing at the radio, but when I thought about it, I found it incredibly hard to pick my own top 5. Now I personally didn't love GOTG so that is off my list, and I don't understand how he could pick Batman Forever. And while I enjoyed Civil War, I think it has enough flaws to stop me from putting it on the list. I would probably agree that THE DARK KNIGHT is No.1, and yet I have watched Batman Begins, and The Dark Knight Rises far more often. There are films I enjoy, but I know that objectively they are flawed. But what criteria should you use?

Curious as to what people here would choose.

Coming up with a Top 5 requires too much brainpower at the moment. But my shortlist would have to include:

X-Men: First Class
Guardians of the Galaxy
Captain America: Winter Soldier
"Here is light. You will say that it is not a living entity, but you miss the point that it is more, not less. Without occupying space, it fills the universe. It nourishes everything, yet itself feeds upon destruction. We claim to control it, but does it not perhaps cultivate us as a source of food? May it not be that all wood grows so that it can be set ablaze, and that men and women are born to kindle fires?"

I watched Punisher: War Zone over the summer. I actually think it's the best Punisher film they've made. Certainly the closest to the 80s/90s punisher. The acting/plot wasn't amazing but the action and the attention to detail was pretty good.

I liked that it was a "superhero" story that took place long after Punisher began. No time wasted on Origin stories, just a random week in the Punishers war on crime.

As for a a top 5, going by this list:

https://en.wikipedia...superhero_films

I think my list, just off the top of my head might be:

1. Watchmen

2. Deadpool

3. The Dark Knight

4. Man of Steel

5. Constantine

Some honorable mentions: Blade 2, The Rocketeer, The Crow, Hell Boy 1+2, TMNT reboot.

EDIT: Wait... are Transformers superheroes?

The topic isn't superheroes.

Everything is a superhero topic if you just squint your eyes.

The lack of Oldboy on your list disturbs me.

I understand people's problems with Burton's Batman movies, but still believe Batman Returns is great. It's so bizarre, yet comic-booky that the convoluted plot works. Everyone is a deranged wacko in it and proud of it.

It's my one Apt-like movie choice on the list.

How is The Incredibles not on any of your lists? Clearly the best superhero film!

For me:
1. The Incredibles
2. The Dark Knight Returns
3. Captain America 2: The Winter solider
4. Guardians of the galaxy
5. Chronicle

Deadpool and Sin City for honourable mentions.

Because as already mentioned, the topic is comic book adaptations.

I would add Dredd and The Mask to those that have been listed. Also, it's hard to say what #1 is for me, but I would definitely put Deadpool up there. It kicked the door in on conventional pg-13 comic book adaptions and gave that safe and unorginal thinking a big middle finger.

Dredd slides in at #2 for me. Cannot believe I forgot about that (maybe because I only read a few of the original comics).

So I'm going to be an awkward git and make two lists. One for all comic book movies and one for superhero movies including non-adaps because doing just superhero stories that are specifically adapted from comics seems to arbitrarily leave out loads of films. So:

All comics:

Oldboy
Kick-Ass
Nausicaa of the Valley of the Winds
A History of Violence
The Dark Knight

(Dredd and Akira narrowly missed out here)

Superheroes:

The Matrix (yes I'm counting it fuck off)
Kick-Ass
The Incredibles
The Dark Knight
X2
I can't carry it for you, but I can carry you.

So long as it's just the first Matrix movie.
No the subsequent train wrecks

Of course. What kind of monster do you think I am?
