As I wrote in the new-member-wellcome-thread I´ve just finished "Memorys of Ice" I was so thrilled that I´m planning to use the background in one of my hobbies, Live-Action-Roleplaying. So far I found two more malazan-enthusiast´s who want to join me, we´re planning to start if we reach 5+, one weak mage, one sergeant and three grumpy marines are our starting-goal for a group. The feeling we want to achieve we discribe as medievel-high-fantasy-vietnam.
The question would be, had anyone here any experiences in that direction or thoughts to that matter.
And of course I would like to learn more about LARP around the globe and talk about that great hobby.

In Germany, but weīre not playing right now because weīre recruting. As I said, 5+ members should be, in our opinion, the minimal-size. Weīre not planning to play direct in the Malazan-World of Erikson, because thatīs imho not enactable. (can I say that? enactable?)
We want to use the background for the group and than visit small fantasy-LARP-events. Most of these eventīs in germany are visited by a variety of characters and groups and they are getting there in some magical-way. For that the warrents provide the perfect explenation how the group will get there.
We are planning to play a squad of bridgeburners that is not mentioned in the books (3rd squad for example was not so far, so thats our working-title) who got lost in the warrents somewhere between the battle of Fahl and the pannion war. The point is, we can referrence to the eventīs and the pantheon and such things for the tone of our play.

Isn't LARP where you get sticks and balls of cloth and hack away?
Allmost, weīre running through the woods ant shouting: "Iīm a dwarf" or something like that
The basic principles are that, but at, least in germany itīs evolving massive over the last 15 years. Today you got orks for example, who realy look like they stumbled out of a Lord-of-the-Rings-movie
o.k. thatīs high-end-LARP, not all, the majority I would say, are putting that much efford in it (Iīm not) but it shows how the hobby evolved.

Show them the picture from the wiki. Your outfit is also impressive.
I had a similar idea, once, but that was almost ten years ago and nobody I knew was reading those books back then in Germany. That's probably still the case, mostly. I used to larp quite a lot (like, every other weekend), but uni and no driver's license got in the way and I stopped larping and gave my stuff away.
Didn't do much fantasy LARP back then, though, because I was in the German equivalent of high school and the stuff I really wanted to do would've required more money than I had.
I don't larp anymore, but out of curiosity, where are you located? Or do you just come plan on coming together for conventions?
P.S. It's called the battle of Pale in English. You guys could pretend your squad tried to get out of the tunnels beneath Pale by Warren and got lost.
Puck was not birthed, she was cleaved from a lava flow and shaped by a fierce god's hands. - [worry] Ninja Puck, Ninja Puck, really doesn't give a fuck..? - [King Lear]
"Fortune favors the bold, though statistics favor the cautious." - Indomitable Courteous (Icy) Fist, The Palace Job - Patrick Weekes
"Well well well ... if it ain't The Invisible C**t." - Billy Butcher, The Boys
"I have strong views about not tempting providence and, as a wise man once said, the difference between luck and a wheelbarrow is, luck doesnt work if you push it." - Colonel Orhan, Sixteen Ways to Defend a Walled City - KJ Parker
Uhh about the nickname, Worry is right, it comes from the old saying "Honey-Badger don´t give a f**k". You know, where the lion trys to eat him and he bite it´s balls of because he don´t give a f**k wether the lion is bigger and stronger. At least that´s how the story goes.
@Puck, that´s seemingly the problem that there are not many people who red the books. We are located all over Germany and plan to get together for conventions. So far at least. And thanks for the correction I read the stuff in german so I´m not too familiar with the original names and such things. shame on me, I know. ;-)
That's a really good sapper costume! Now your lobber crossbow needs to actually explode when it hits something - maybe in a shower of confetti. Or paint
