Completely forgot about this. Thought it was in the weekend.

Microsoft is just about closing it's live event now.

Here's a Eurogamer article on the conferences and what to expect.

I'm interested in seeing if EA and Activision-Blizzard have anything interesting to show, but it's definitely Microsoft that is the main pull this year. They should be showing new footage of Crackdown 3, Scalebound, Quantum Break, etc.

Going to go watch that Microsoft conference now.

My thoughts in a spoiler box, updating as I watch:

Quantum Break looks the same as it has the other 2 years they've shown it. It reminds me of the PS4s Infamous: Second Son: Visually stunning but in terms of game play thoroughly underwhelming. It just looks like a third person shooter with a time stopping mechanic.

What they can't show us of course, is the quality of the story. I really liked Alan Wake so I trust that Quantum Break will have a great story. That's what I really want to play this game for.

Crackdown 3 looks AMAZING! That destructible environment feature took me by complete surprise. I assume it has to be canned animations when the buildings fall over, but still, destructible environments have been one of the things I have looked forward to seeing more of when the hardware became more powerful.

Not sure what they were talking about when they said that multiplayer offers 20 times the computational power of the X-box One. Is it on cloudbased server that is streaming input or does it draw on each of the players own consoles to manage the world? I have no idea.

Scaledown looks surprisingly promising. That cinematic trailer last year made me think it was some kind of Rock-em-Sock'em monster fighter. This actually reminds me a bit of the Horizon trailer, but less engrossing. That dragon is cool as balls.
I am sort of curious about where they are going with the world building/story? The character reminds me of Dante from Devil May Cry. The world seems sort of Final Fantasy.

More stuff on the Backwards compatibility. Seems sort of weird that the Game for Gold games become backwards compatible, since they are already free, but what ever.

Cool to see a new season of Killer Instinct AND that it is coming to PC. I am completely crap at fighting games now a days, but I think want this.

I am completely uninterested in Blood Stained. I want to care but these middle ware games are just not looking that appealing.

Worms looks like worms.

Point and click adventure games really do not need to come back in pixel form.

Ark: Survival Evolved still looks cool but I refuse to touch it until it comes out of Early Access.

We Happy Few looks interesting. Sort of like a colorful Amnesia Dark Descent.

Minecraft needs a sequel desperately. Cobalt looks like Mojang is trying make a more expensive Terraria clone.

Dark Souls 3 looks super atmospheric. Lots of romantic grim dark japaneseness. I still haven't played any of the Dark Souls games. I want to but on the other hand I just can't be arsed to deal with the games bullshit.

OH FUCK YES more Homefront Revolution! So glad to see that the game is still in development despite the economic turmoil. I remember really liking Homefronts story, despite being a COD clone, it was just too short. The Revolution looks like they are doing everything right.

Ah yes, the traditional sports games segment in the video game conference where I start to nod off.

Halo 5 didn't really offer anything new. I guess they chose this conference to focus on the e-sports segment. I just cannot muster the energy to get excited about watching other people playing games competitively.

Just Cause 3 remains my most anticipated game this year.

Forza and Rainbow Siege look like themselves.

More Rise of the Tomb Raider? Yes please! Oh, I like the new info about a big open world for you to explore and go tomb raiding in. This footage focused on actual combat and traversal instead of the cinematic stuff. It looks really promising. It's annoying it wont be out on PC before early 2016 but I can wait.

I have to say though, this no longer really feels like a Tomb Raider game. This looks like The Last of Us mixed with Uncharted.

Man that Halo teaser at the end had me expecting anything but Halo Wars coming back. I thought that game didn't do so well.

Pretty good line up.

I agree about not being sold on Quantum Break - looks like the sort of thing that would be fun initially, but grow old as a concept pretty quickly. I'm also always wary of game/tv tie-ins (anyone remember Defiance?) - they have a solid-looking cast, but my worry - from a gaming perspective - is that they spend more time and effort on the TV show than on the game.


Alpha footage shown of Crackdown 3 probably means we have a long wait still for that game. The 20x computational power thing - they specifically mentioned they're "harnessing the power of the Cloud" (ugh) for that, Apt. I'm sceptical.


Scalebound looks fun - from what they said the story sounds like you play a guy from our Earth (headphones) who's somehow transported to this world Draconis. The game didn't look to have quite the 'scale' evoked by the trailer from a year ago, but as I said, looks fun - Platinum games usually are.


They're pushing the Windows 10 integration features - hopefully that means more PC games coming to Xbone in the future.

Eh, Defience was an MMO, Quantum Break is a story driven third person shooter. I believe in Remedy.

I have to say, considering the line up 2015 and 2016 looks really good for Microsoft. Meanwhile Sony looks like it has no fucking clue what it is doing. They have a massive lead in console sales and plenty of software sales but they are quite literally doing nothing to keep their lead or convince new customers to buy their platform. I wonder what they are thinking.

Maybe they're thinking: "We have a massive lead and people are still buying our consoles even without any exclusives, so let's just let our studios take their time making the games they want." Maybe


I forgot to say: Those Halo commentators were super annoying. But Halo itself might finally convince me to buy an Xbone.

Oh, and forgot about the surprise announcement of Halo Wars 2. When they started, I thought it was going to be ODST 2. I actually just finished playing Halo Wars for the first time a couple of weeks back, and I quite enjoyed it, so looking forward to this.

I would LOVE a Halo ODST 2. I thought the almost CSI like detective type of story telling was fascinating. But I think what with the characters from ODST popping up in Guardians the characters are too tied up unless they do a game set in the past.

Of course, it could be new characters but I doubt they'd do that.
