Do you think this magnificent series of books about an intriguing world, characters and magical plots will ever go the way of Martin's A Song of Ice and Fire series and become a television show? Is it even filmable?

ASOIAF was written to be unfilmable but it was filmed anyway. Malazan? Well, I'd say it's far harder to get on screen than the "Unfilmable ASOIAF". Even Wheel of Time would probably be easier. So no, I don't think it will ever be filmed, at least not in it's entirety. Standalone movies perhaps like what they planned for GOTM and DG.

I have consulted the Deck of Dragons, and it prophesied that this series will be made, but only when the 50th thread on this topic is started. So give it a couple more years.

It's too big to work without masses of content being dropped. It falls now to Worry and the motley collection of sock-puppets accrued in their garden shed, to create the series for us.

You couldn't do the whole series without too much content being dropped. For one book, you could possibly do Deadhouse Gates (and by that I'm thinking of predominantly the story of the Chain of Dogs), but I suspect it would still be tremendously difficult .

They should do a Lego version.

If you were going to cast a Malazan TV show... and a Malazan TV show NOT a film... starting with GotM, who would you cast.

I know we have casting threads here before, but the challenge this time is to actually cast the main characters from GotM, not just all the cool characters from the series we would like to see and to use actual TV actors or practical choices and not just current Hollywood film favourites.
So balance of practical/pragmatic versus dream casting.

So firstly, in a Gardens of the Moon adaptation for TV who are the main cast characters, who are recurring guest characters and who are guest characters? For instance Shadowthrone and Cotillion are not exactly going to be doing weekly appearances in a show, so would they be relegated to Guest appearances? Oponn is barely in it, so neither of them would be principal cast members. Tayschrenn, despite impact, is not going to be in it every week....

Secondly, how many episodes for the whole book? This would give us an idea of who will have a lot of weekly appearances and who will only be in one or two weeks. So we could make them guest stars rather than series regulars.

Thirdly, who do we cast in which role bearing in mind a limited budget and accuracy/similarity to book description?
Trust me, I'm a doctor.

Probably a lot of unknowns, if we stick to those casting rules. Like with GoT. So not much point mentioning names in that case. There's people getting paid good money to look into casting stuff with actual restrictions. I'm not bothered at all, as long as they cast Rutger Hauer in it somewhere.

If they had the cash, a series made in the same way that they make the warhammer trailers would be mind-blowing. It's the only way.
Also, for it to be a success, it need it needs a catchy 'winter is coming' sort of logan for the trailers.

There are plenty of great TV actors who wouldn't cost an arm and a leg to work on the show. Even if we just picked names from shows like Marco Polo, Rome, Fringe, the current slew of Superhero series, and other fantasy and SF shows. I reckon we could get a pretty good main cast list together.

The first challenge would be deciding who the main cast are.

I think of Bugg as Posca all the time (JC's main slave/homie).

It would maybe work if you cast Sergio Henry Ben as Iskaral Pust.

If this was to be done, it should be done properly and have Nicolas Cage play each and every part. We shouldn't stand for compromises.
