Great idea BK. I have a feeling those that aren't watching this show yet, will be watching since it's now nearly finished S1 and they can binge it.

Anyways, a great effing show and many times outpaced GoT for general episode enoyment this season. Those not watching should be watching.

Here's a quick trailer for those who might've missed it.

Hello, soldiers, look at your mage, now back to me, now back at your mage, now back to me. Sadly, he isn’t me, but if he stopped being an unascended mortal and switched to Sole Spice, he could smell like he’s me. Look down, back up, where are you? You’re in a warren with the High Mage your cadre mage could smell like. What’s in your hand, back at me. I have it, it’s an acorn with two gates to that realm you love. Look again, the acorn is now otataral. Anything is possible when your mage smells like Sole Spice and not a Bole brother. I’m on a quorl.

Yeesh, that was a strange finale. Hard as hell to watch at times...and

Spoiler

Otherwise I was happy with it. A solid first season.

Indeed. The warning at start was well placed. That was hard to watch.

I really want to have that Murtagh/Jamie conversation translated.

The warning only showing up for you guys on this specific ep is a tad weird to me. In Canada, Showcase (who airs it), has had the same warning up for every episode all season and when it returns from every commercial.

I think the gist of that conversation is on display, but yeah I'd like to see it translated. We need someone who speaks gaelic stat!

Also, I started DRAGONFLY IN AMBER...and shit is already insane and twisty!

What you have commercials during premium shows???

It's not on a premium network here, it's on a regular cable specialty network...but it doens't have a subscription or anything.

Hard to watch is an understatement. I was turned away for whole chunks of that. It really has been a long time since I read the first couple/few of these books, although that stuff did strike me as familiar. QT: I assume you've then finished Outlander if you've started Dragonfly. How accurately is the show following the book's plotline?

Indeed BK is right, as fas as I could tell and from what I've read season 1 is pretty spot on, with only minor tweaks and happening s shifts for dramatic effect...for example:

Hmmm...I did just finish the book I was reading and I don't have all I need for my first Malazan reread. I could pick a few of these up used again. I seem to recall it was pretty easy reading...

I'm sure I lol be skimming scenes if it's that spot on but I really want to start from beginning to read the stuff that shows can't show us. I'm hoping for lots of background info particularly about the stones.

Just a heads up, as of the beginning of the second book, Claire says "I don't know how they work" about the standing stones at Craig Na Dun, and since she's the POV narrator of the series I doubt you're going to get much more about them in the 1st book than we've seen so far. Perhaps down the line in the books (book 3 onwards, or later in book 2) we might get more.

You WILL, I'm sure, get some stuff the show doesn't give you, but I don't know how much.

EDIT: BK, according to my sister-in-law who has read all the books, the stones get much deeper explanations later on in the series.

That plot description turned me off when I first heard of this show. Sounds like the TV version of a mills and boons novels.

Still a strong recommendation.

Not at all. I thought the same thing initially too, but the romance/sex doesn't remotely get in the way of the main thrust which is a time travel historical fiction tale.

ya, I remember thinking chick flick / romance novel when the ads for the show aired when it first came out. So it's not huh?

hmmmmmmm.... goddamn you all if I start watching and get addicted to another show!

...also, it's only just ended season one? I feel like this show has been around for a while.
I know the current season of game of thrones is wrapping up, and this show has been on for a lot longer than that season start. Does it not air weekly, or is there a midseason break like regular tv shows have? What's the deal, or am I just imagining that it's been airing for a long time now? Maybe it's just that I saw ads for it a long ways back and it never started until recently?

Yep, just one season so far (second season was commissioned already), 16 episodes. There was indeed a mid-season break from about December to February, which is why it seems like it's been on longer.

It is a very good show based on an intriguing idea; time travel through a circle of ancient standing stones. I, personally, also love the show for the fact that its filmed in Scotland. Was there in '99 and absolutely fell in love with the landscapes, castles and ruins (and we didn't even get to go up into the Highlands). I'll take any chance to revisit in my mind. Makes me wish I could justify the cost of a bottle of Talisker!

Not seen the tv series but I did accidentally buy the audiobook off audible. Was alright, can't go wrong with Scotland and time travel, but definitely more one for women. Porn for women.....

Plowed through the whole season this weekend.
Ya it's pretty good. I'll set it up to record on the DVR next season.

You can tell it was geared towards women but it wasn't as bad as the previews led me to believe.

S2 is still a few months away but last night I saw the 1st ad and a few Jamie/Clarie shots of their time in France. I'm curious if they are going to be showing the confusing beginning arc of bk 2. I don't see why they won't but I'm looking forward to seeing the show back on even though I'm having such a hard time reading bk 2. I've put it down twice now to read other books. Hopefully I'll have finished it before show starts.

Book 2 is good, but takes a little while to get properly going as it's a LOT of France set up.
