Did Kalam Asend?

I always thought he asended when Pearl stabbed him and he fell in the water. It seemed to me that he cheated death and from then on was an Asendent whether he realized it or not. But it seems on the forums that's not the consensus. Thoughts?

I'm sorry for not being more specific but I was talking about the scene in the HoC. When they are on the ship. I didn't want to post in that formum because I did not want to be restricted up till HoC as a I just finished BH.

As of the end of TB, he's near death in a poison induced coma on the floor of the Deadhouse. That's all that's certain.

WM isn't wrong that death or near death can be part of ascension tho'.

Ah, I see which moment you mean. But I'm not inclined to agree. IIRC he has some moderate self-healing and stealth sorcery from his Claw days but is largely functioning via his honed skills.
