I felt that the first two of the new Bond Movies lacked a proper villain. Skyfall certainly made up for that in addition to all the other improvements it brought to the table. The reintroduction of Spectre and Blofeld is all I could have wanted, but perhaps some with less of a nostalgic Connection to the franchise will find the direction a little too much.

It's a real shame Donald Pleasance isn't alive to do the role but Waltz is an excellent subsitute.

Yeah, I think that Mendes has done a tremendous job (so far) with the nostalgia factor. I mean we are revisiting Classic Bond villains, organizations, and settings but with a new Bond (Craig), and without retreading the same stories. It's a brilliant way forward with these films. Keeps them fresh, while making them be about what made Bond great!

I simply can't wait. I adored SKYFALL and CASINO ROYALE.

I thought Skyfall was awful. Pretty but worse than Quantum of Solace in terms of the story. However I have loved the new origin story of James Bond the 3 films have been telling. I was really hoping that Spectre would emerge in a future film so this is exciting.

Anyone know what this legal business surrounding the Spectre organisation is about? I assume this is why it never returned before now.

I think reviving SPECTRE will fit in nicely in a post-9/11 world; though volcano bases, whilst retro, probably wouldn't fit into the contemporary idea of a terrorist base of operations.

What the flying fuck, no. NO. No, no, no. He gets court marshaled and either quietly put down and buried in a shallow grave or he goes to jail for one million years to allieviate the metric fuckton of political shit that comes washing in over MI6.

I get that Javier is sneaky bastard and I get the Skyfall plan was actually a means of luring Javier to a place where they could take him out. My point is IT'S FUCKING DUMB!

EDIT: I mean, just off the top of my head.

M calls in a favor through back channels and there's a bunch of SAS sniper teams situated in the mountains surrounding Skyfall. A minute after the helicopter sets down the movie is over.

Once I let them capture me, I know for a fact they will take me to this exact room at this exact time and the guards will be in this exact stage of their patrols so I can break out into this conveniently unguarded underground tunnel access. Bond will be exactly hear at that time so he will chase me at this exact speed and catch up to me in this underground chamber at exactly this time. I'll set bombs there to go off at this exact time when a train will be passing through in just the right position to come crashing in and be mere centimeters from killing me but instead will incapacitate him.

Is it though? Is any of that really at all like anything that came before in the whole franchise history? I haven't seen anywhere close to all the movies nor read any of the books (and none in a while), so I don't really know, but when Bond didn't get things right wasn't it usually from lack of information rather than outright stupid plans? Yes, yes it is. You may need to watch the majority of the Bond's that came before. Most of them feature aspects like this. I can't think of a Bond villain scheme that was sensical. Possibly in Goldeneye because it's about a turncoat? But I mean most of the Brosnan Bond films operate with extraordinarily silly nonsensical things from the villain end. The Connery-era Bond villains were even more so.

This is why the phrase "Bond Villain" crops up in reviews of other films so much...it's a caricature...and was aptly copied in things like Austin Powers.

An example: THUNDERBALL features a nearly 30 minute underwater fight between multiple participants that is beyond ridiculous when Largo (the villain) could have removed his people from the water and dropped depth charges on Bond. Done and done. Hell, it's in shallow enough water they could have just shot at him with a sniper rifle.

Bond is not really about sensical. It's about a gentleman spy, and the ridiculous situations he AND his villain get into and out of.

Don't gt me started on MOONRAKER.

For those who may have missed it when it dropped last Friday.



Personally, I like the vibe. The connective tissue from not only the Quantum people (in CASINO ROYALE and QUANTUM OF SOLACE), but also the fallout from SKYFALL. Is Christoph Waltz playing Ernst Stavro Blofeld...I doubt it...possibly Number 1? I doubt they'd intro Blofeld in the teaser trailer...even in the darkness. I'm curious what will be up with Bond's seeming familial connection to Waltz's character "Hello James" he says...not "Hello Mr. Bond" (Wiki entry has him down as a "childhood friend"). Deep dark secrets indeed.

Also, Mr. White's line of "You are a kite dancing in a hurricane Mr. Bond." is just excellent.

Seriously, if SPECTRE is even HALF the great Bond film that SKYFALL was...we are in for a treat, and I'll be bucking for Sam Mendes to continue directing the films. The look of some of the cinematography is JUST GORGEOUS in that teaser.

Now this is how you do a teaser. Actually teasing the content and not just giving a 3 minute synopsis.

If I had to make a guess based on the clues in the trailer, James Bond had a brother. That's the one who's face was burned out of the picture. That brother is in Spectre. That brother might even be Blofeld.

Taking all of that one step further, James Bond is connected with Spectre. Is James Bond actually a Spectre agent? Is he a double agent or did he once try to infiltrate the organisation? Was it a personal project connected with the origin films or was it sanctioned by M?

More importantly, WHERE IS JAWS!?
