Hi there people, been looking but haven't seen a thread about this show so thought I better start one.

Has anyone been watching?

For those not in the know its a prequel to Treasure island set 20 years before and follows a younger Captain Flint, John Silver and other Real Life Pirates. It is set in 1715 and so far I am really, really liking it!

Its on Starz and there are two episodes out thus far.

Anyone been watching? Opinions?

Personally I am loving it, easily my favourite new show, and is the best out of those I follow that are currently airing. Its in my top three current shows with Hannibal and Game of thrones!

Very interested, but I've not had a chance to check it out yet. Glad to hear it's good!

I've watched the first episode and the 2nd is DVR'ed, haven't gotten to it yet.

I'm not sure yet, the first episode I felt was good/ok. I haven't really gotten a feel to how the series is going to go from the small sampling (leaning towards good). Definately going to give it a couple more episodes to be sure, but I'm not "hooked" yet after the premiere.

Ok so only halfway done with ep 2 but in that half it's already been much better then ep1 IMO.

Ya, got to watching ep 2. Liking the series more. Not yet on my "awesome show" list, that I'd want to watch ASAP (Walking Dead, Game of Thrones, Dexter), but I'm liking it more every episode (after watching a whopping 2 episodes! :) )

heh, also, it's hard to think of that guy as a pirate (the antagonist pirate). He does a good job of it, so that helps a lot, but sometimes hearing his voice throws me back to him being he airhead sex addict he played on Shameless.

Saw the first ep (just started here last week).
Not bad, nice to look at. I fear it could be one of those 'style over substance' cable shows, more True Blood than Breaking Bad so to speak, but there was enough in the premiere to hold my attention for the next few eps.

Also credit the press coverage of this series for leading me to discover what a 'merkin' is.

Ep 2 wasn't as interesting as 1, felt more like set-up all around, but not bad.

Am up to ep 5. Some solid brutal pirate action there. The ship to ship combat is so nicely done.

Finished the season now, set things up for season 2 nicely, looking forward to it, especially after the finale!

Definitely gets better as the show goes on, once they hit the open water and actually get to doing some pirate business the show really improves and becomes quite enjoyable!

I'm only two episodes in so far, but both the Mrs. and I are HIGHLY entertained. This show is amazing! It's funny, action-packed, sexy, and just swashbuckling good fun.

And Bear Mcreery's theme music and the opening with the statuettes...oh...my...gods...so good!

Aye, this intro and Vikings are the only two I tend to watch! If you're enjoying it after the first two then you will love the rest!

ep VII suffered a bit of setupicitis again, which seems to be a thing with every other episode in this show.

Still,

Have to agree with your opinion on some of the various subplots, a bit too 'filler' for my liking.

re Billy:

I think we all knew Season 2 was on its way, but announced today at New York Comic Con is that Starz has ordered a 3rd season as well!

Exciting news.

Better?

I thought S 1 started slow but ended strongly.

That was a hell of a season opener. Totally enjoyed the main storyline. The dynamic between Silver and Flint (oh hey i just realized the play on words there hee) was great... that 'shoot this guy, beat up that guy' scene was brilliant.

I'm less engaged by what's going on in Nassau... Jack/Anne Bonnie/Max aren't all that interesting... i really preferred Bonnie when she was Vane's killer, and Jack's just become a farce.... Max's opportunism isn't new but she's becoming more daring which is fun at least.

Eleanor's political manoeuvring remains meh, and new evil pirate guy Capn Low seems like he's just there to give Vane someone to kill a lot. Tho the whole 'we don't accept goods for resale when they're covered in blood and guts' thing was funny.

I'm not sure we really need Flint's backstory via flashback, but hopefully it's going somewhere.

I'm still holding out for Billy to show up again.

There was a Spanish ship out there when he was blasted into the water.
