I remember someone put this together on the forum before (Macros??). It seemed like a great idea to me and I was sorry I missed out. Something reminded me of it and I thought it would be cool to try again.

The idea is that we each get the name of another forum member and we post them a small letter, a second hand book of our shelf as well as something cheap that a tourist might buy in our city or country if they visited, lets say something under ten dollars or your local equivalent. Of course if you like you can add a small something extra but lets say a letter, a 2nd hand book and a piece of tourist kitsch as the minimum agreement to participate.

So is anyone else keen? Ill collect the names of everyone who wants to participate and then randomly assign each a partner that is from a different country.

Would the book be a surprise? Just thinking most everything I have laying around is something most of you have already read.

I think their will be some details to iron out as we go along. For now my thought is that I will announce who your recipient is to give you some time to co-ordinate if you think you need it. You can then decide individually if you would like to ask them which book they want, send a surprise or maybe try to be somewhat coy and just ask what kind of genres they like or have never tried.

The idea though I think is more about getting you to speak to a forum member you may not have spoken to before and just having fun rather than worrying about what gift to give or what you may gain.

Though your right that it would probably be a mistake to give someone Garden of the Moons

What if it was a copy of Gardens of the Moon with elaborate drawings of penises on every other page made with crayons?

No... I am too lazy and apathetic for me to trust myself to actually go through with this and I don't want to disappoint some poor malazite.

There have been two white elephant exchanges
so this would be WEE3

personally I think the novelty is the same as the cards, you don't know who you're going to receive from.

there is no hard fast rule on what you send, but its usually something tacky from your homeland, and then brickabrack.
basically the only money you should spend is postage and a little bit of touristy tack.
I like to include a book I love that I don't think they'll have read.
count me in.

I really enjoyed the card thing, so count me in for this one too! (I'm in the great land of Canadia, in case you didn't know)

And customs doesn't allow anything in unless it was actually made in Oz.

Oh, and by the way, Cause, don't I count? I said I was in, but you didn't put me on the list! Just cause I'm Canadian doesn't mean I don't matter you know! :harhar:

I'm surprised you can bear to part with any from your collection.

Any clue how much shipping a small parcel costs to the far side of the world? I would do this if it weren't too much.
HiddenOne. You son of a bitch. You slimy, skulking, low-posting scumbag. You knew it would come to this. Roundabout, maybe. Tortuous, certainly. But here we are, you and me again. I started the train on you so many many hours ago, and now I'm going to finish it. Die HO. Die. This is for last time, and this is for this game too. This is for all the people who died to your backstabbing, treacherous, "I sure don't know what's going on around here" filthy lying, deceitful ways. You son of a bitch. Whatever happens, this is justice. For me, this is justice. Vote HiddenOne Finally, I am at peace.
