Elementary Does anyone else like this show?

I searched but didn't find a thread about this particular show. I've been watching this modern day version of Sherlock Holmes since it started and it's one of the handful of shows that I always watch, although lately via DVR. I read both volumes of The Adventures of Sherlock Holmes in my early teens and also used to listen to a radio adaptation on public radio during the same time period. (Yes, a radio adaption; had a period of about seven years in my youth with no tv in the house. Turned out to be a great thing!) So I've always loved the Sherlock Holmes character. I find Johnny Lee Miller's portrayal of Holmes to be excellent and his interaction with Lucy Liu as his Watson is very good. Miller does very well portraying the brilliance of Holmes' mind, along with a good bit of neurosis that tends to accompany that type of mind. They've been building up to a confrontation with Holmes' personal nemesis, Moriarity, for several episodes now and the most recent episode (#22, I believe) before this Thursday's two hour finale dropped a nice little bomb at the end. Very much looking forward to the finale now. So, anyone else ever wanted a deerstalker?

Instead of this I watch BBC'S SHERLOCK with Benedict Cumberbatch and Martin Freeman.
I have tried ELEMENTARY multiple times, and dislike the American-ness of it.
I know people who enjoy it, but I simply can't.

Same, the BBC version was soooooooooo good, I just cannot get away with watching Elementary. I've tried but to no avail.
And I really dislike Lucy Liu playing 'Joan' Watson... doesn't work for me.

That's interesting that you both mentioned the BBC's Sherlock. A friend of mine told me that one was good but I haven't found the time to hunt it down. Is that one set modern day as well, or true to the time period of the books? I wasn't sure about Lucy Liu at first either but I do like their interaction now. But then, I think Miller does so well with his version of Holmes, maybe he could work with any number of other "Watsons".

Sherlock is set in modern times.
I watch both of them, and while I think Sherlock is infinitely better and much less cliched, I also think that Elementary is fun in its own right. However, I was sort of disappointed by the

I can't stand Elementary. I loved Sherlock on BBCA which can now be watched on Netflix. Elementary is such a shitty rip off that it makes me have flash backs to the American version of coupling...ARRGGGGGG

Well then! It seems the uninaimous consensus so far is that the BBC version is much, if not completely, better. I must check it out. And I must remember to NEVER look at spoilers if I'm at all unsure as to what they may reveal! I probably just ruined the Elementary finale for myself, assuming the storylines between the two series are the same.

Having never really watched Elementary I could tell you if the story line follows. I don't think that it does though.

I actually like Jonny Lee Miller as Sherlock, all the little tics he does.
I'm getting used to Watson being female.
I just treat it as a different story with characters who happen to have the same names as Conan Doyle's. That helps me enjoy it for what it is.
That being said, the season finale twist was stupid. Did not like that revelation at all.
Was good to see Natalie Dormer again though. I loved her in TUDORS.

I'm feeling quite foolish now for not realising the Elementary finale was LAST Thursday, not this coming one. That being said, I watched it last night and was rather disappointed also.

it has to be said, BBC's Sherlock is VASTLY superior, but I do enjoy Elementary. and not just because I always found and still find Lucy Liu to be jaw-droppingly hot. wait, not hot. beautiful. hard to define the right flavour of what I'm feeling.

I actually prefer Elementary to BBC's Sherlock. In terms of quality of filming/scene-shooting/probably script, yes Sherlock is more... polished? But in terms of content, I'm actually sick of the queer-baiting and grossness of Moffat, and I love Lucy Liu as Watson (and I'm sick of people bashing her role on not-so-great-reasoning, i.e. wow sexism).
I do agree with the sentiment of "Elementary is fun!" while "Sherlock is seeerriousss", and despite the above, I did still enjoy Sherlock in many ways.

I like the show. But the finale was a bit 'meh'. I don't think I have a problem with Moriarty being female. It's the "I have an invisible multi-national corporation with an endless supply of world class assassins" that annoys me.
Lucy Liu can do more acting with a change of expression than most big names can do in a whole movie.

Oh no no no, I didn't get the impression anyone here on this thread wasn't into Elementary due to sexist reasons, I was just throwing that in there in terms of a lot of the Sherlock fandoms' pretentiousness that I occasionally encounter.

I have to totally disagree with most of the thread. I LOVE Elementary. I think it's second best to only Guy Ritchie's version. I like the ex heroin user angle. I like the spin on Watson, and I thought the last episode was amazing. Also, the actress playing Irene is the one playing Margery in Game of Thrones. I can't stand the BBC version. It's just like all the old boring British versions of Holmes. I'd rather watch paint dry.
