I watched a few 2 minute videos of this on Guardian. Any entity with any form of logical thought capability cannot endure watching more than that of this farce.

Be glad you don't live here. Some of us have to watch it to stay informed. :apt:

From my two minutes I found out that the GOP candidates are expected to be misogynists, racists, homophobes, and hypocrites. I don't think I need more. I can't remember cause I was too young, but did Bush spew this kinda of BS before being elected? And are they likely to do this shit when/if they get elected? Because if the answer is yes I need to start stockpiling food and weapons.

In other words, according to some "a good ole' fashion American!"
Trouble arrives when the opponents to such a system institute its extreme opposite, where individualism becomes godlike and sacrosanct, and no greater service to any other ideal (including community) is possible. In such a system rapacious greed thrives behind the guise of freedom, and the worst aspects of human nature come to the fore....

From another board I go to: this is your above-average Republican voter in a nutshell. I mean, this guy is in law school.

Quote

What did we get for the Iran deal? We got humiliated. Our "Commander in Chief" (embarrassing to say) couldn't even get our four hostages released. John Kerry even admitted that Iran can't be trusted, so why the hell did we do this?! Then Obama goes out and compares GOP opponents to the Iran savages chanting death to America. This president is the biggest disgrace and disgusting idiot we have ever had. He's not American leader. Anytime someone disagrees with him, he denounces and calls them out.. Well, only if they're Americans. He sure as hell doesn't call out those who are our enemies, like Iran. Honestly, I seriously question who he supports between Israel and Iran. Ally or leader in terrorism support / eternal enemy. His actions indicate the latter. I hate to say that, but this deal made zero zero sense. Either it's what I just mentioned, or he is the biggest dumbass imaginable (which is true) and doesn't understand negotiation. He already demonstrated that though when he told the world that military action is off the table. Seriously, you don't tell your enemy that we won't use military if they commit crimes. Everything should always remain on the table and in secret, even if military action is slim

There are lots of idiots in law school and the legal profession. Competency in the law does not equal competency in politics. Hell, Scalia and Thomas are SC justices for fucks sake and they are trolls of the highest caliber.

When we were debating Texas vs Johnson (IIRC), some girl started ranting, in class, about how her grandfather was buried in the flag and that means fuck no you can't burn it.

Oh, I know. I use that only to demonstrate the fact that he is an above-average Republican. Some idiots can get into law school. Most can't.

From experience?

Yes they can.

I went to an average law school, I can only imagine the idiocy of other school's students.

But, I get your point. At some time they proved themselves to have some sort of intelligence in the LSAT and in their GPA.

Yeah, there is a difference between "most people in law school are idiots" and "most idiots can get into law school".

Agree with most of what you said, HD, but this is where you lost me. Scalia's a D+ with occasional flourishes into C territory, and Thomas gets a God's honest F. He's a Youtube comments level troll, with the sexual harassment element intact.

What's to move on to though? This whole batch of losers has even less personality than the 2012 crowd -- Scott Walker is the perfect poster boy for the mundane evils of conservative policy, and most of the rest are in the same line of work. The only other candidate with personality is Huckabee, a semi-professional defender of child molestation. Of course the blowhard is gonna stand out. And frankly, anything that makes Trump more popular with the reactionary crowd -- ie Republican primary voters -- is a good thing for the country, since he can't win a national election.

In the wise words of the great O'Neill*, sticking your fingers in your ears and humming loudly helps. If that doesn't work, you can try beating your head against a brick wall. Unfortunately I think we're all going to be spending the next few months doing such things. Trump will not be going away anytime soon; he could very well be our Berlusconi.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I think all of the conservative attempts to gerrymander the national election at state level, by splitting electoral votes proportionally instead of winner take all, failed. So the Pres/VP election remains the one un-gerrymandered result. This may sound pie in the sky, and I know the voters are fickle and fatigue-prone, but as long as there's proper turnout I don't see a reason to have another Republican president again.

Assuming they stop trying to split the electoral votes.
Hello, soldiers, look at your mage, now back to me, now back at your mage, now back to me. Sadly, he isn’t me, but if he stopped being an unascended mortal and switched to Sole Spice, he could smell like he’s me. Look down, back up, where are you? You’re in a warren with the High Mage your cadre mage could smell like. What’s in your hand, back at me. I have it, it’s an acorn with two gates to that realm you love. Look again, the acorn is now otataral. Anything is possible when your mage smells like Sole Spice and not a Bole brother. I’m on a quorl.

This is a great look into the minds of people who would vote for Trump. Take away what you will from it.

Trump ain't going to win a nomination and he certainly won't win the presidency, all this does is inflate his incredible ego and chance to make more money in other ways.

Frankly, they were doing what he wants. Fox News now realizes how deeply they fucked themselves and are doing everything they can to bail out.

If it wasn't so tragic I'd be laughing hysterically. Who's kidding, I'm still laughing an the situation is hysterical.

Fox is fine from their perspective. They built up Trump and Walker. They'll get plenty of mileage tearing them down, while Jeb continues to pull more campaign funds than everyone else.

The Trump appeal would be dangerous if he'd gone for governor, which is a smaller race and Cuomo a limpid establishment rep.

Does Jeb Bush seem the sanest/safest GOP nominee? It seems like that to me and I still shudder when I think about his brother.

Fox is terrified they built him up too much. He was their hit-piece candidate and attention drawer as far as I'm concerned. Now they are worried (rightfully) that he's captured enough to run on his own: which would be the ultimate fuck-up.

Trump 2016 independent would be GLORIOUS for Dems and liberals.

John Kasich is also pretty sane but he doesn't have the name recognition of a Bush, obviously. His recognition might improve as time goes on but honestly his support of Medicaid from a moral standpoint is a turn-off for the average Republican primary voter. Marco Rubio is relatively sane and appealing for his ties to the Hispanic community but the base prefers Ted Cruz, the other Cuban-American who is probably the most extreme candidate they've got aside from Trump. Scott Walker has a reputation as an Establishment "sane" type but he's not really.

Sane? Maybe. Depends how much you correlate sane and humane. Look up Terri Schiavo if you want an idea of just how "safe" Jeb Bush is.
