You know, I remember a time where anything associated with Spielberg was deemed a must watch, but seriously. Yet another generic invasion series? What is the point any longer? I think I might understand it if they'd pulled a "Band of Brothers" and made it some kind of 20 hour movie filled with great scenes where the actors get to frame the story... but this?

Still, I like the guy from ER, I grew up watching him on TV, I hope this isn't yet another sucky project he gets involved in.

I wonder if a real invasion is coming and Holywood is preparing us by showing endless invasion stories and supplying Tentacle porn from Japan.

Well it involves aliens, so the first season will be good, the second will improve until you're really looking forward to the third season, and then it will get cancelled in favour of something else that has a shiny new trailer and an actor from a previously successful series.
So that's the story. And what was the real lesson? Don't leave things in the fridge.

I don't know... why don't aliens just nuke us from orbit???!!! If you have space travel, you must have some weapon that deals with unwanted bipedal life forms....

Because they want our delicious meat, work power, baby tears or something. The best version of this is still in Dark Angel with Dolph Lundgren where a space drug dealer is harvesting our brains for our endorphins.

Plus why irradiate a perfectly habitable planet?

I never liked that ER guy, plus this looks like V redux. Not excited, but I'll watch an ep or two, see how it is.
OK, I think I got it, but just in case, can you say the whole thing over again? I wasn't really listening.

It looks lame but since it has Dr Carter shooting spider aliens in the head with a machine gun i'll give it a try.

I don't get it. It's not just on here, it seems to be the feeling everywhere these days.

See, when I was younger aliens invading and sci-fi gun battles ensuing were just cool. A good, deep script was if anything a hindrance, unless it was full of amusing quips or whatever. I mean... aliens.. guns.. pewpew... awesome right? Except apparently not. There's some part of growing up that seems to have just passed me by completely, because this kind of shit gets me excited even now. Aliens.. spaceships... guns... I mean, I don't think I'm a simple guy or anything, I do appreciate more intellectual films and books as well, but I suppose I'm trapped in some childlike state of finding some things inherently exciting. Like guns, aliens and especially the combination of the two.

Maybe one day I'll get to where everyone else seems to be, that they need more than just that to find something awesome. Not really sure if I want to though :apt2:

Okay, I saw it today and I now have more to say. It wasn't halfbad. It certainly wasn't great and I do not predict it to be a major success. But it wasn't halfbad.

Man I was really looking forward to show as I rarely get into TV shows but that first installment was a complete dud for me. It didn't seem to offer anything new or exciting to a concept that's been done many times before. I'll give it a few more shows to see if it changes but after last night not too hopeful.

The thing is, it was actually not bad in execution. But the utter lack of originality made it all so very dull.

Release this ten years ago, it might've been huge.

What's worse, it appears the lead criminal dude (can't remember his name now) is going to be a recurring character, meaning we're going to get some kind of lame humanizing backstory that is going to make my teeth hurt.

The writers and producers need to pull something out of their sleeves FAST, if this show is going to survive.

Haven't seen it yet, but the trailer alone looked so devoid of originality that I couldn't get in any way excited about it. If this didn't have Spielberg's name attached it would be dead by episode 3 I'd say.

I wonder if they'll bring down the aliens with an iPad2, just to keep it current? OR maybe they have to wait for the iphone5?

Saw the second ep.

What would really help here, are some pre-invasion (and even post-invasion) flashbacks. Because none of the characters are particularly making you care for them. If there aren't going to be any original concepts, at least pay attention to the storytelling and build up the characters.

Case in point - the whole Harris/Tom's wife story. Don't tell us, SHOW us.

Pope as a chef was LAME. They're trying to make him the "Sawyer character" and it is LAME.

Alien POW could be an interesting storyline though. Especially since he appears to be able to link to that de-harnessed kid.

Watched the premier. It was dire. The show dragged, the acting was wooden, dialogue was horrendously out of place. Just seems like your typical American trashy show. It has ALIENS CONQUERING THE WORLD for crying out loud. Most of the time it just felt like everyone was on some big massive camping trip.

Also - The Scottish and William Wallace fought the British? Really? And this apparently coming from a College History Professor.

Never knew Wallace had a time machine.
