I like this grey and shady style. Great work as usual :)

Outstanding work.

I would love having this framed on my wall.

Excellent stuff as always. I really like your style of painting.

Curious as to how you used layers in this instance. Was it to be able to work on individual elements like the boat without affecting the background? Or for being able to alter lighting and colours without having to redo the lot?

Looks awesome, though when I look again, rather odd.

Maybe just me, but it looks like they're real close to daru-which means they look massive in comparison.

Looks awesome though :)

'Tis beautiful! And a great choice of scene, too, imho! I especially like the darkening of the clouds and the detailedness of the BBs on the boat!

I think that's cause the bottom of the boat is a big higher than the shore, whereas from the perspective it should be the other way around - the shore should be higher as it is closer to the horizon. Minor detail, but it can jar the eye a tad.

Looks great CP. What brushes do you use to get such a good paint effect? Do you use custom brushes, or is there something else you do during/after?
My pics always look kind of flat.
So that's the story. And what was the real lesson? Don't leave things in the fridge.

Hey all, thanks for comments.

Firstly, I'm fixing the perspective of the city at the moment, I didn't notice until Grief and D'rek pointed it out. Cheers.

@Traveller: I used Oily Bristle for painting and a Dry Palette Knife for blending. In Painter 11. I also turned the Opacity up. I normally paint with it really low. 30% is as high as I went.
But I've been reading some tutorials and things over at ConceptArt.org (great site btw) and they all said to have it up high. I had it between 50% - 80% for most of it. Think it helped alot.

@ Binder of Demons: I tried to use layers so I didn't wreck the background doing the boat, city and Moon's Spawn.

Tres cool. i really like how you captured Moonspawn over the city. And that's a nicely random but significant scene to pick to illustrate.

Nitpick - it looks like Sorry is sitting and someone else is manning the sail. Iirc, she was the only one who knew how to sail.

- Abyss, impressed.

counter-nitpick, Sorry volunteered that she knew how to catch some fish so they wouldn't look suspicious when they came in without a catch. Sailing was not an issue.

Also, the new version looks even more fantastic!
